The sun is indispensable: it plays a considerable role in mood and its rays participate in the synthesis of vitamin D, which is essential for strengthening children's bones, healthy growth and general health.
Children's skin is thinner, more fragile and sensitive than that of adults and their defense mechanisms against the sun are still immature. In addition, children sweat very little, which makes them more sensitive to temperature variations, sunburn and dehydration.
Exposure to the sun should therefore be done according to certain rules. This is because, in addition to the reasons mentioned above, the skin retains the "memory" of sunburn for years, which can lead to the development of skin diseases in adulthood.
Childhood is therefore a key period in the relationship between the skin and the sun and the best time to develop good habits. Gestures repeated together in the present will be the child's future gestures, and parents have a very important role to play in preserving their children's skin.
This involves choosing sun protection that is effective against the sun's harmful rays, while respecting the delicacy of children's skin:
Children need sun protection:
Offer protection against ultraviolet B rays (UVB), ultraviolet A rays (UVA) and have a very high sun protection factor (SPF 50+);
It should be applied 30 minutes before exposure to the sun, whether on the beach or other outdoor activities and even if it's foggy or misty; Don't forget the skin that isn't exposed (under the swimsuit) and pay special attention to the lips, ears, hands, feet, the area behind the knees, shoulders and neck. The application should be repeated every 2 hours or whenever the child gets their skin wet in the sea, swimming pool or if they perspire a lot;
It should be adapted to children's lifestyles: the product should resist water and perspiration and preferably be visible when applied, so that no area of the body is forgotten;
High tolerance: the formula must be hypoallergenic, alcohol-free and tested under dermatological control;
Be adapted to the child's skin type: if the skin is very fair or easily reactive, you should opt for a care product specially developed for intolerant skin.
